I went over to Jen's FB page where she was discussing backing out of the conference. Of course, the usual crew was out in full force, telling her to "follow her gut" and do whatever she feels like. Heaven help us all if she decided to break out of her comfort zone and learn something new about herself. Her whole life is about people telling her that it's okay to do whatever she wants...and if someone doesn't say or do something exactly the way she hoped, she drops stabbing remarks. I can't imagine the hissy fits that must take place *off camera*. The stuff that makes it onto film is bad enough. People in her family must walk on eggshells around her to avoid the tantrums and silent treatment.
I'm absolutely sure Don was supportive after she informed him about dropping out of Altitude Summit. She has him so whipped that if he said anything remotely challenging to her, she'd be all over him. To keep the peace, half the time he must just nod and keep his mouth shut, which she then translates as "support." He has remarked before that he feels like he is just so lucky to have her; he must not have felt like he could do any better. He probably feels stuck because if they got a divorce, he wouldn't be getting any, which from past comments he's made is apparently the main thing he values her for. What a weird relationship.
The worst thing about Jen not attending the conference is that I think it would have actually inspired her and helped her to improve her channels and her blog. I used to really enjoy watching all of Jen's channels until she got stuck this rut she's been in for the past year. If she's an "Original Content Creator," she needs to start putting out some original content, rather than half-assed 6-minute vlogs about editing vlog footage and walking her dog. "The Busy Bee Buzz" operates like clockwork, putting out the same kinds of videos on the same schedule every month...hardly anything ever is new over there. The "organization" channel is basically how to pack for travel anymore. When is the last time she showed a major -- MAJOR -- cleaning or organization overhaul around her house, step-by-step, rather than a tour of some random holiday decor? Now she's thinking about (maybe) attending this summer... Well, that gives her audience six more months of the same boring stuff. I think she's basically churning out crappy videos because she's addicted to the paycheck, not because she's actually concerned about the quality of the content she's providing. As long as viewers keep watching and feeding her laziness, she has no reason to get any better.
DoItOnaDime and beauty gurus like MissGlamorazzi, BentleyBlonde, and MakeupByTiffanyD are lightyears ahead of Jen. As much as she watches other YouTubers, you'd think she'd learn something? But I guess it's just okay to "keep doing her," even if it's her "job."
